Modern classrooms should not be confined by the walls of a room or by the information that a teacher brings into this room. We want our children to experience a world that is not bound by location, geography, time or our fears of the unknown. Visits, trips and camps offer direct and original experiences that develop new knowledge and relationships, expand confidence and develop community. Telecommunications bridge location and time, allowing contact with experts and people that develop new communities built around common knowledge and values. Special interest groups such as orchestra, choir and dance provide a depth of study and a challenge that is often not possible within a normal classroom. Individual and team sports build skills and offer challenges in yet another sphere. The following section summarises some of the approaches used in our school.
Visits and Trips:
- Each term people are invited to visit the school to work in classrooms, or to talk or perform to a larger group. Such visitors are selected because of their ability to complement the work of classroom teachers
- From time to time the class will go on field trips or visits beyond the school.
- Visits and trips may use parent transport and often there is a charge to cover expenses.
- Written parent permission is obtained when your child starts school to allow them to attend trips for the years they are at Fendalton
School Camps:- Each year classes from year four will spend at least one night at a camp.
- Venues differ from year to year.
- Parents are asked to cover the costs of camps and to share the experience with us.
- Police vetting will be sought for parents attending overnight camps
- Adequate forward notice of dates and cost will be provided.
- Parental permission is required.
